Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine, a Philadelphia native was raised and born in the city. Her mother Pam is a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. In the age of five the father of her was appointed to be one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Her family later moved into the mansion's historical building. She is a 2005 graduate from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was an instructor of vocal music. Sullivan started singing as a contralto with the kids' choir, before joining just a few years later, in the adult group. Sullivan wasn't exposed to secular music at first. "I began singing in solos in churches, and one of my friends was urging me to sign up for a gospel recording when I was eleven. However, I was not ready for that," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition with children of major cities. Then I had the opportunity to perform the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. The crowd was welcoming." She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday in the year 13. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age fifteen. It was her first time signing with Jive Records in the year fifteen. She was the producer of an entire album but this album didn't get released. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. Missy Elliott was her producer for some songs from their debut album. One of them is "Backstabbers" performed by Timbaland and Timbaland, which Elliott wrote, is a one of the highlights of their collaboration.
